There are many kinds of raw materials for recarburizers. The production processes are also different. There are woody carbon, coal-based carbon, coke, graphite, etc. There are many small types under various categories. Generally the graphitized recarburizer is more popular and reliable. The arrangement of carbon atoms is in the microscopic form of graphite under high temperature which is called graphitization. Graphitization can reduce the content of impurities in recarburizer and reduce the content of sulfur.
We can greatly increase the amount of scrap steel and reduce the amount of iron by using graphitized recarburizer. What is more. we do not have to use the iron during casting process with graphite. At present, graphite is suitable for electric furnace smelting and cupolas. During the process of electric furnace smelting, the graphitized recarburizer is recommended to be put in with scrap steel. Small doses can be added to the surface of molten iron.
However, we should avoid putting large batches of materials into the molten iron so that we can prevent the occurrence of insignificant recarburization effects and insufficient carbon content of casting because of excessive oxidation. The amount of recarburizer is determined according to the ratio of other raw materials and carbon content. We need to choose different typrs of recarburizer according to various types of cast iron. The appropriate selection of the recarburizer can reduce the production cost of casting.
