What is Ferrosilicon?
Ferrosilicon is used as deoxidizer and alloying agent in the steelmaking industry. It is also used as inoculant and spheroidizing agent in the foundry industry.
-General Introduction of Ferrosilicon:
- Ferrosilicon is an iron alloy which is composed of iron and silicon.
- Common Grade of Ferrosilicon: 65#, 75#, 75B#, hard75(silicon ≥75%)
- Common State: Natural block with a thickness of about 100mm.
- Note: Ferrosilicon is afraid of tides and wet, the natural block is easy to pulverize when exposes to water that will also make content of silicon decreased.
-Functions of Ferrosilicon
1. It is used as deoxidizer and alloying agent in steelmaking industry. In order to obtain the steel with qualified chemical composition and ensure the quality of the steel, deoxidation must be carried out in the final step of steelmaking. Because of chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very high, ferrosilicon is a strong deoxidizer for precipitation and diffusion. The strength, hardness and elasticity of steel can be significantly improved by adding certain amount of silicon.
2. It used as inoculant and spheroidizing agent in the cast iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper than steel and also easy to melt and smelt. It also has excellent casting properties that has better seismic resistance.
3. The grounded or atomized ferrosilicon powder can be used as the suspended phase in the mineral processing industry. It can be used as coating for welding rods. High content ferrosilicon can also be used on silicone production industry.
